Our Members Products
Every home in the UK has at least one of our members’ appliances, many have literally dozens. These range from the large kitchen appliances – fridges, freezers, fridge freezers, washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers – to cookers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, blenders, fans and electric showers. In fact almost anything in the home that isn’t related to a computer or a home entertainment system and has an electric plug on it could be made by one of our members; and even some without plugs.
These appliances tend to save labour making boring and repetitive jobs much quicker and easier (think clothes washing by hand) or less energy intensive (think dishwashing) and some allow you to do things that would not otherwise be possible such as heating a meal from frozen in a few short minutes.
Almost all of these appliances replace human labour with mechanical work delivered using electricity – and this comes at an environmental cost. Our members continue to invest millions of pounds every year in product development to make them ever more efficient. The EU has also been encouraging energy efficiency by introducing and improving labelling formats, with the most recent clarification in 2017. It also imposes ecodesign regulations for certain product groups. These regulations cover energy use in standby, reparability, availability of spare parts and facilitating dismantling when the product is defunct, as well as supporting the implementation of the circular economy.
Innovation abounds – from using fuzzy logic, to designing bladeless fans and putting heat pump technology in tumble-dryers. This means ever more energy efficient convenience for our members’ customers. These pages tell you a little of these stories.
