During its review of the Energy Labelling and Ecodesign Directives the Commission has been asked to look again at the way that the Primary Energy Factor (PEF) has been used to express electricity consumption as primary energy consumption.
A meeting of the Consultation Forum has been arranged for 8 December to consider whether the conversion factor should still be used and if so, whether its value needs to be amended.
The PEF allows comparisons to be made of the energy efficiency of appliances that use different fuels and at present it is set at 2.5. It has been suggested that as Europe moves to a more variable fuel mix for its power this figure may no longer be valid.
