Last month we reported that the 2014 Compliance Fee had raised £375,000, a sum which has been added to the revenue from the Distributor Take Back Scheme and made available for Local Authorities to bid for grants to help fund their local recycling projects.
The amount of WEEE collected is up significantly on the previous year and the UK has exceeded its targets comfortably.
The Joint Trade Associations Group (set up and chaired by AMDEA) which designed the 2014 scheme has sent BIS a revised proposal for the next WEEE year.. Two other bids have been submitted – one from Valpak and the other a joint proposal from Advantage Waste Brokers, Dataserv Group, DHL WEEE Compliance, Veolia WEEE Compliance, Electrolink, WeeeCare and WE3 Compliance.
There is a public consultation to assess the merits of each proposal, and a final decision on which one is accepted will be made in February 2016.
