Twenty-five years after its introduction, the voluntary Ecolabel now covers a range of products with varying degrees of effectiveness and/or enthusiasm.

Work is in progress to decide which groups to prioritise, and appropriate criteria for deciding on which to discontinue or revise.

As well as a proposal to create a new Ecolabel for supermarkets and an update on the one for lubricants, it is proposed that the current criteria for televisions should be continued beyond their expiry date of December this year. This is to allow for delayed changes to the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling legislation so only A rated products and above, with a maximum energy consumption of 100W, will be eligible.

The Ecolabel for flushing toilets and urinals will not be extended beyond its expiry date due to lack of interest.
