The Government published its response to the report from the Working Group on Product Recalls and Safety, of which AMDEA was a member.
All the recommendations were accepted, including consideration of creating a national body to oversee safety. This last was seen as a longer-term option by the Working Group but the Government has already set up a new Office for Product Safety and Standards which currently sits within the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Other recommendations were already being implemented, including new guidance for businesses and market surveillance authorities. BSI has designed a new Publicly Available Specification – PAS7100 on Product Recalls and Other Corrective Actions which will be officially launched in March 2018.
This month AMDEA participated in a BEIS planning session looking at training for Local Authority Trading Standards on how to use the PAS and how to engage with businesses in their locality.
