The Netherlands is proposing to stop any new housing being connected to gas grids. Which is potentially a challenge for companies supplying gas-powered appliances.

This is part of the Dutch Government’s new “energy agenda” – a plan to achieve an 80-95% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as required by the Paris Agreement. This came into force on 4 November 2016 and four other nations have already published their strategies. Of the 197 parties to the Convention on Climate Change 121 have now ratified the Paris Agreement, including the UK.

Another item on the “energy agenda” is electric cars. The Netherlands has the second highest concentration of plug-in electrical vehicles in the world and is the world leader in the number of charging points available per head of population. This may have something to do with early incentives that
