At the Consultation Forum at the end of April the Commission proposed maintaining the existing exemptions for fans and a 5 year exemption for spare parts.
Certain Member States supported the industry view that regulating fans integrated into products that were already subject to Ecodesign Regulation constituted double regulation which could create problems for market surveillance Authorities and possibly affect technological developments adversely.
However the UK, among others, is in favour of the additional regulation of fans and opposed to any exemptions for spare parts.
There was also a difference of opinion when it came to fans for kitchen hoods, and whether or not information on weight should be required, as well as concern that the previous Directive would be repealed before the new provisions took effect.
