Some of our readers will already know that the European Commission has launched a study to review the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Regulations on air conditioners (Regulations 206/2012 and 626/2011). The study will also look at comfort fans, which are of interest to several AMDEA members.
As well as reviewing the scope of the current legislation the study will also consider resource efficiency aspects such as disassembly, recyclability, reparability and durability.
Other points under consideration will be noise limits; prospects for refrigerants with a lower global warming potential; possible changes to standby and off mode requirements; and an assessment of the seasonal calculation and measurement method.
The study started in February 2017 and is expected to finish by summer 2018.
