Proposals to revise the international standard ISO 3055:1985 Kitchen equipment – Coordinating sizes have been in discussion for some time but are unlikely to be completed in accordance with the ISO’s deadlines for revising standards.
It has therefore been proposed that this particular project be taken off the official timetable of the ISO’s furniture committee. However, work will continue, albeit with no particular timeframe for completion.
This standard defines sizes for fitting kitchens in dwellings. As well as the sizes of zones for hot and cold water and waste and gas pipes in kitchen cabinets and certain appliances, the standard also specifies the spaces required for appliances. The standard applies to all the components in a kitchen – cabinets, work-tops, sink units and appliances.
AMDEA does not sit on this committee (TC 136), but we do follow the work that they do on kitchen furniture in case it might have an impact on our members’ products.
