AMDEA represents the interests of domestic appliance manufacturers to governments, standardisation bodies and other relevant organisations.
AMDEA’s members play an active role in the Association’s work through committees and panels.
Standards: AMDEA plays a key role in the development of standards through its representation at BSI (British Standards Institution); CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and at CISPR (Special International Committee on Radio Interference). AMDEA also advises on the implementation of appliance standards and how they affect the UK market.
Briefings: AMDEA runs regular briefing events for its members with presentations from its technical staff and by external speakers. Topics include Safety and Standards, Consumer Rights, Ecodesign and Energy Labelling; RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). These briefings represent valuable training sessions for key staff within AMDEA’s member companies.
Statistics: AMDEA provides its members with monthly market data updates and the Board and Commercial Committee of AMDEA receive regular reports on recent industry figures, market trends and projections.
Websites: AMDEA’s website contains information for the casual visitor but its main function is to allow members to access the association’s vast library of documents. Our three other websites are Register my appliance, Time to Change and a third site dedicated to food waste disposal.
Newsletters: AMDEA publishes two monthly e-newsletters: TechNews for members’ technical staff; and the AMDEA newsletter, which goes out to a wider audience. Our Annual Report is sent to all contacts, giving a yearly summary of the previous 12 months’ activity and providing useful information about AMDEA membership.
Communications: AMDEA sends its members regular reports on issues of concern as they arise and responds daily to requests from our members for information and advice. It also deals with enquiries from government agencies, the media and from members of the public.
