The Domino Project is a beneficiary of the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and aims to persuade young professionals to save energy and encourage their nearest and dearest to do the same.
The project envisages 4000 households in Europe (in Naples, Berlin and Brussels) being encouraged to use their appliances in a more energy efficient way. As well as consumers learning how to save energy with their existing appliances, the project expects to glean useful information on energy consumption patterns and how to shift them by using technology.
The Project has just issued what it calls a “Smart Plug Challenge” which invites teams of five to use a “smart plug” in conjunction with an app to measure their energy use and learn about ways in which they can save energy. It is hoped that participants will then feel motivated to look for the most energy-efficient models when they next choose an appliance.
