Amendments are being proposed for the standard BS EN 1116:2004 Kitchen furniture. Co-ordinating sizes for kitchen furniture and kitchen appliances.
These include a change in the definitions to split “unit” into subsections of “free standing kitchen unit”, “floor standing kitchen unit” and “wall hanging kitchen unit” which have also been proposed for the safety standard 14749:2015.
It has been suggested that specified dimensions should include allowance for feet and plinths in recesses to take built-under appliances. Distances between different elements have also been discussed in terms of their safety implications but such matters were deemed to fall under the remit of the safety standard rather than this one.
AMDEA does not participate in the BSI Furniture committees but we do track them for any impact on the appliance industry.
