As we have previously reported the European Commission’s draft Standardisation Request for washing machines, washer-dryers and dishwashers originally included material efficiency and microplastic filter requirements. These have now been removed and the Commission is expected to issue a separate Standardisation Request for those aspects at a later date.

The residual request has been through interservice consultation and is awaiting final approval prior to its publication as a Commission Decision. AMDEA attended a meeting of the CEN-CENELEC Standardisation Ad-hoc Group that considered the draft and proposed approving it once it was formally published. The standards from CENELEC TC59 to support this standardisation request are currently expected to be approved ahead of the deadline set by the Commission (December this year).

We are not expecting any harmonised resource efficiency standards to be listed before the new Ecodesign Regulations take effect next March.
