Last month’s event was in two parts: a morning session with external speakers on market surveillance, and an afternoon workshop on risk assessment.

In the morning AMDEA presented a brisk summary of the market surveillance position in the UK at present and then handed over to BEIS (the Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy). They explained the setup and remit of the new Office of Product Safety and Standards followed by an overview of proposals to amend the EU’s market surveillance legislation.

In the afternoon we looked at an example of a reported safety issue and tried to assess the risk, somewhat hampered by it being a fictitious example so everyone was making happy assumptions about their hypothetical test results!

We will be running another event in a month or so, this time looking at all the aspects of what the new PAS 7100 calls a Product Safety Incident Plan – measures that companies are required to have in place to ensure that they can continue to supply safe products. We will also be looking at the AMDEA Guidance on Corrective Actions, including Recalls with a view to expanding the advice for our sector
