AMDEA held another of our popular Members’ Briefing events last month. This one looked at the implications of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which is now law and will take effect on 1 October 2015.
Our guest speakers were from the consumer organisation, Which? and the small electrical retailers’ trade association, retra. The event concentrated on those aspects of the Act that deal with the sale of goods.
This is a significant piece of new primary legislation. With other recent changes to consumer law at European and UK level adding to the complexity retailers will need to ensure that their staff understand the changes. AMDEA’s Spares and Service Panel is designing some industry-specific guidance for our own members.
However, there is already considerable confusion among retailers, consumers and even legal advisers, about what consumers are and are not entitled to claim and from whom. So we hope that this new law will be an opportunity to provide more consistent and accurate advice than may be currently available.
