The UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013 require producers of equipment to finance the cost of collection, treatment, recovery and recycling of WEEE arising from private households. Annual collection targets are set for Producer Compliance Schemes (PCSs). The Secretary of State has discretionary powers to approve a compliance fee methodology as an alternative form of compliance, payable by PCSs that are unable to meet their collection target.

The Joint Trade Association Group (JTA), chaired by AMDEA, comprises nine trade associations who, in cooperation with three PCSs, have submitted the last two winning bids for an annual Compliance Fee. As in previous years there were two other submissions: this year’s proposals are from Valpak and T2E. All three are now out for consultation and comments are sought by 25 November 2016.
