After two years of discussions, the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council have reached a provisional agreement on a trade mark reform package.. The proposed measures aim to make trade mark registration systems across the EU cheaper, faster, more predictable, and with greater legal certainty.

The key aspects of the package are: significant reductions in the fees for European Union trademarks; streamlined registration procedures for all the trade mark offices in the EU; stronger measures to deal with counterfeiting; and adapting and clarifying the rules on trade marks.

This provisional agreement is expected to be formally approved shortly.
